Subject: Classes needed to transfer

Inquiry:

I am currently enrolled at Blinn Junior College. I am interested in transferring into the Civil Engineering department and it would be helpful if you could send me a list of classes that I should complete before transferring. I know that Cal I,II, and III plus Chem, and Phys should be taken, but what else should I take? Thank you, Xxxx Xxxxxx

Response:

First let me state that we are not admissions, nor do we set the policies for admission, nor do we have any say into who is admitted to TAMU. However, we have some idea of what is required and the following should hopefully answer your questions.

First, see the following Course Requirements Checklist.

IN GENERAL:

   *  You can take most of the courses on the left half of the table at a junior or community college and they will count towards your degree in Civil Engineering at TAMU.

   *  Courses listed on the right half of the table should be taken at Texas A&M.

   *  For automatic admission:  In addition to the university's minimum requirement of 2.5 GPR in 24 or more graded transferable hours, you can complete the CBK courses (blue highlight) with 3.00 or higher GPR.

   *  For admission by review:  Must have AT LEAST two, preferably three or more, of the CBK math, chemistry, and physics courses with solid AB grades in each;  Minimum 2.50, preferably 2.75 or higher cumulative GPR in all graded transferable hours;  C or better in non-technical courses, NONE TO FEW (1 or 2) D, F, and W grades.

   * WARNING:  Be cautious if you choose to take any of the Social Science/Visual and Performing Arts classes at somewhere besides A&M.  There are classes here which can carry dual credit for your required International and Cultural Diversity classes, along with your required Social Science/Visual and Performing Arts classes. If you are sure the class you take elsewhere will transfer as one of the following classes listed below, then you will get dual credit. See:
