E-mail and special requests during the past several semesters

From my evaluations:

He is the wurst professer I had ever had.

He constantly picked on me even if I wasnt sleeping he said I was. I learned a lot in this class but I should have a choice.

From e-mail (with some poetic license):

Dr. Lowery:

I would like to discuss my grades with you. I made a 99 on quiz A, and I have a 100 on my homework, but you gave me a 34 on quiz B. I am hoping that if I make a 100 on my final exam you will drop my quiz B grade, which would only make sense. You can tell it was just a bad day for me and not a normal grade.

Dear Dr. Lowery:

I would like to see you about my grades in your class. I got a 68 on my quiz A, a 68 on my quiz B, and have a 68 on my homework. I anticipate that I will make a 68 on the final in this class. I am hoping that as an engineer yourself, you see the value of consistency. I can see why people’s grades which vary 70 or 80 points from quiz to quiz are a true danger to society, and deserve what they get. But if you can give me a C in this class you can absolutely be assured that I will consistently do consistent work consistently. Thank you for your consideration.

Dear Dr. Lowery:

I had a hard time this semester. My girlfriend left me for a foreigner, and I was hit by a truck. My dog died and my team is dysfunctional. There are three idiots on it who either sleep or talk during your excellent lectures, and are quite a distraction to me. They are no help at all when I get stuck, and it seems that every time they tell a joke about you I laugh and then I am the one who gets caught. I had to work all of the problems alone this semester and let them put their names on them because I have to get along with them, but they keep getting 98’s on their exams while I have a 55 average. I am hoping that you will let me retake exams A and B. I understand that I haven’t been to very many of your classes, but believe me I really know this material.

Dear Lcubed:

I would like to ask you if you would please not take off any points because of my absences. I know that I don’t come to class very often, but that is because I already know the material since this is the third time I have taken the class. I really feel that you should count my quiz grades as my final grade since they show what I know, and if you take off 22 absences I will get an F, which I don’t think I deserve.

Dr. Lowery:

I would like to see if I can meet with you to do something about my grade in your class. I have to have at least a B, maybe a C.

Dear Dr. Lowery:

I would like to talk to you about this class. If you give me an F, I will have to take it over.

Dear Mr. Lowery:

Are you going to curve the grades? I know what the syllabus says, but we were all hoping that you might put a one or two point curve on the grades anyway.

From personal conversations:

Mr. Jones (actual name changed to protect anonymity):

I think that the homework part of our grade is counted way too much. Almost everyone is just copying it, and counting it as 10% of our final grade is far too much for just copying someone else's work. I didn't work much homework, I will admit, but I could have copied it and gotten the 10% too. I really hope you will count my homework grade maybe 5% or just let me have my exam grades.

Mr. Smith (actual name changed to protect anonymity):

I have worked all 140 homework problems in this class, and it took a lot of time. To only count this as 10% of our final grade is way too small. Please consider increasing the homework percentage of our grades to something more reasonable. 40% would probably be good.
